Reading & Creative Writing Club
At LinguaCom (est. 2007), we're opening a small online Reading & Creative Writing Club for ages 9-11, designed for curious native English speakers who already love reading and want to tap into creative writing. 📚

Our first book
We're starting with Matilda by Roald Dahl (and later we'll be happy to add poetry, plus more adventure and fantasy).
Creative Reading: Co-Creating with the Text
The core is what we call creative reading. Reading is not just decoding words on a page. It's co-creating with the text. Your imagination paints scenes, argues with characters, extends plotlines, and asks "What would I do here?" That's how emotional intelligence grows and how kids build a real link between feelings and language: how writers shape meaning with tone, imagery, exaggeration, humor, and other techniques, and how students can use those tools in their own writing. ✍️
What actually happens in our Zoom session?
Each lesson has a clear structure:
01
Warm Up
We meet in Zoom and warm up with a short prompt.
02
Shared Reading
We do shared reading of a short excerpt: sometimes the teacher reads, sometimes students read in turns, sometimes in roles, and sometimes with light theatrical elements.
03
Discussion
We discuss: motivations, choices, subtext, humor, "what the author is doing," and how different readers see it differently. Respectfully, like a real book club.
04
Creative Task
We do a creative task (spoken or written).
Creative Task Examples:
  • Choose an adjective from the paragraph and tell a story that illustrates its meaning without using the word.
  • What if the character had a blog? What would she post, and what would the commenters write back?
We intentionally practise both silent reading and reading aloud, because they engage different skills. When kids develop both, reading becomes more confident and enjoyable.
Homework
Project-based: an ongoing creative piece that builds over time and becomes a presentation at the end of the year.
Meet Your Teacher: Neta
The club is led by Neta, who has 3 years of teaching experience and a strong creative background: she worked in theatre-based creative projects, has experience as a mora-hayelet, is currently studying for a theater degree, and performed in an English-speaking theater in Jerusalem.
